OUR STORY

ECO Georgia is a non-profit established in 2024 to connect Georgia’s expanding oyster aquaculture to educators, empowering them to inspire students.

OUR MISSION

ECO Georgia empowers students and communities through place-based education rooted in programming about oysters.

By connecting learners with oyster farmers, scientists, and maritime professionals, we foster environmental stewardship, workforce pathways, and long-term investment in Georgia’s coastal ecosystems.

OUR WORK

ECO partners with local schools and organizations to connect Georgia students to the salt marsh through monthly classroom lessons and hands-on coastal field trips.

After a semester long study of oysters can make our coastline more sustainable and resilient, Virginia Heard’s 4th grade had their culminating field trip out to the oyster farm and to Savannah Boathouse Marina to do dock-side activities!

There is nothing like seeing students take what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to our beautiful coastline!

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women leading the work of ECO Georgia.

Our board includes educators, scientists, farmers, and community leaders who believe in the power of place. When students experience the marsh and the people working on the water, curiosity turns into stewardship.

Together, they are helping empower the next generation of students, including young women, to see themselves as future scientists, farmers, educators, and leaders caring for Georgia’s coast. #placeispower
